Dressing in Layers

How to prepare a 1-year-old to go out in the snow:

1. Start with tights and a long-sleeved onesie.

2. Add socks and pajama pants.

3. Add long-sleeved shirt.

4. More socks. And jeans.

5. Shoes.

6. Pink sweater.

7. Double-layer coat and hat.

There were mittens, too, they just aren’t in that picture. She was so adorable! She’d try to bend over to pick something up, but it was hard to do from inside her protective bubble!

  1. We visited with Elizabeth and Chris in China in January, temperatures around freezing most of the time. It does not keep them from going out. They also bundle their children up. But, in China, little children relieve themselves by just squatting and going. To facilitate this, the crotch of their pants is open. It is very funny to see a little child from the back side – all bundled up with a bit of “cheek” showing. Lots of other China pictures, too.
